Eclipse, played the way it deserves.

The async Discord league treats every Eclipse game as a true battle of wits — every action considered, every fleet weighed, every reputation tile fought for. This is the ultimate way to play Eclipse.

The Async Eclipse League

Every game on this scoreboard was played in the async Discord league — Eclipse, played one turn at a time, with the time and depth the game truly rewards.

At a face-to-face table the clock is always ticking — fleets get built on instinct, tech paths get chosen on vibes, and the inevitable rules debate eats the back half of the evening. Async play strips that out. A custom Discord bot (AsyncEclipse) renders the board to an image, posts it in a thread, and pings whoever is up next. You take your turn when you're ready to think — not when the timer says so — and the table does the same. The result is Eclipse as a pure battle of wits: every economy choice optimised, every combat previewed in the calculator, every diplomatic move negotiated in the thread before the dice come out. Games typically finish in two to four weeks, and most players are running three or four tables in parallel at any given time.

How it works

The bot owns the board state. It posts the rendered map after every turn, validates legal moves, computes combat, and tracks the round counter. When the game ends it scores everyone automatically and posts the final state to the #game-chronicles channel — that's the feed this scoreboard ingests.

Who plays

A few hundred players, ranging from people whose first Eclipse game is online to grizzled veterans of the 1st Edition rulebook. The tone is friendly, helpful, and very willing to teach — new-player tables are common and signposted as such.

Why it's the best way to play

No clock pressure means deeper plans, sharper combats and real negotiation. The bot enforces the rules so nobody is half-right from memory, and the persistent thread becomes the table-talk history of the game — every threat, alliance and bluff on the record.
